Infiltrating micro-sealant for preventive treatment of early non-cavitated caries
The project will deliver a new dental micro-sealant for the prevention, treatment and monitoring of early non-cavitated enamel lesions caused by caries (‘white spot lesions’). The sealant is based on glass ionomer nanoparticles that are able to infiltrate and seal these lesions, while allowing natural re-mineralization/repair. A fluorescent dye allows monitoring of the sealant application on teeth, while a micro-ecology improving compound will protect the enamel from caries-promoting bacteria.
